The Big Quiz

Our conference includes an invitation to our Big Pub Quiz. We believe that it is important to enjoy Maths, and more informal time to network with colleagues. Our Big Pub Quiz will round off our day of celebration and will be hosted by Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett as seen on ‘The Chase’.

Naturally, there will be a Maths round but also a chance to pit your wits against some of the best Maths brains from across the region with non-Maths related rounds.

Guests will work in teams of 10 and the quiz will include a traditional pie and peas supper. We expect the event to start at 6.30pm, giving you a chance to enjoy the rest of your evening with like-minded colleagues or travel home if you wish to. (a cash bar will be open on the night, please note that although attendance at the quiz and the pie and peas supper is free, delegates are required to pay for their own drinks).

This fabulous evening is a chance to network, and put your knowledge gained in the day to the test!

If you wish to take part in the quiz, simply select it as an option when making your booking. If you are coming as an individual, or as a small group to the conference and quiz, you will be asked to add your name to a teamsheet on the day. If you wish to submit a full quiz team of ten, please email mathshub@trinityacademyhalifax.org with your details or call us on 01422 244890 to discuss this.

About your quiz host …

Mark Labbett is best known for his role as a ‘Chaser’ on the teatime game show ‘The Chase’. As a child he was head-and-shoulders above his classmates leading to him receiving the nickname ‘The Beast’ as a teenager.

Mark obtained an MA in Mathematics from Oxford University before he became interested in quizzing when working at a Butlins holiday camp. Following national and international successes, in 2007 he was ranked as the 13th top quizzer in the country. ‘The Chase’ was first broadcast in 2009 and now has viewing figures of 3-4 million an episode.

The Beast will be hosting our very own Big Pub Quiz – come along and test your skills!
